Jean LaPointe Mihalcheon – Biography

Jean (1929-2022) was born in Saskatchewan.  She received a diploma from the Alberta College of Art, Calgary Alberta in 1953 where she also completed her post-graduate studies in glass technology. She received the Henry Birks & Sons Award for General Excellence, and is represented in such collections as the Alberta Art Foundation, Government House Edmonton, Alberta House, London England, as well as many private and corporate collections.  She has held solo exhibitions at Mount Royal College, Fleet Gallery Winnipeg, Calgary Galleries, Peter Whyte Gallery Banff to name a few.

Her interests include two main areas – relief murals and ceramic heads.  She combines wheel-thrown porcelain forms which are fired with oxide glazes and mounted on painted plywood backing.  The heads are not meant to be portraits and are decorative sculptural forms.
